NEW ORLEANS

New Orleans is truly a magical place where you can let go and unwind. I recently took a three-day break to just relax, indulge in good food, and immerse myself in the local culture.

BUT FIRST, CAFE DU MONDE

If you're looking for some delicious beignets in New Orleans, check out Cafe Du Monde in the French Market. This legendary cafe has been serving up its famous beignets since 1862, and they're definitely worth a visit!

THE FRENCHMEN HOTEL

I stayed at the Frenchmen Hotel on Frenchmen Street, which is situated just a few blocks away from Bourbon Street in the Marigny district. If you're looking for a place to enjoy live music, indulge in some delicious comfort food, and avoid the chaos of drunk tourists on the street, Frenchmen Street is the place to be.

For me, finding an authentic stay with easy access to great food options and privacy was a top priority, and the Frenchmen Hotel proved to be the perfect choice. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was cozy and inviting.

SOLO SELF-CARE TRIP

Sometimes I take time off from work to fully tap into myself. One of my favorite ways to rejuvenate is through solo travel. I love spending time alone and indulging in activities that make me feel good, like reading a new book, writing a blog, praying, tasting new food, and resting. There's something so liberating about moving at my own pace, discovering new things, and enjoying those priceless moments with myself. It's a way for me to give back to myself and show myself some love.

This hotel was perfect for me because it allowed me to move at my own pace. Whether I wanted to sleep in late, take a midday swim or enjoy a cocktail at midnight, the hotel was very accommodating. The best part was that I was able to experience the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavors of the Marigny without feeling obligated to follow a strict itinerary. It was a truly relaxing.

THE ELYSIAN BAR

I had a delicious meal at The Elysian Bar in Hotel Peter and Paul. The French Rolled Omelette with smoked salmon and mixed greens salad was a great choice. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere inspired by the Marigny neighborhood. I highly recommend checking out their various dining options, including the Courtyard, Cafe, Bar, Parlor 1, Parlor 2, or the Artrium.

MR. ED’S OYSTER BAR AND FISH HOUSE

Next on the list is Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar & Fish House, situated in the French Quarter. They specialize in serving oysters, which can be grilled, fried, or eaten raw. The dish that I relished the most was their red beans and rice. Additionally, I highly recommend trying their fried catfish. At Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

THE COURT OF TWO SISTERS

This charming restaurant is situated in the heart of the French Quarter and offers a daily jazz brunch that features a delectable selection of Creole classics. The courtyard setting adds to the overall experience and provides a relaxing ambiance. I must say that the glazed pecan sweet potatoes stole the show for me - they were simply divine! Additionally, I highly recommend trying the special seafood omelette - it's a must-have. Overall, I had a wonderful time at The Court of Two Sisters and would definitely revisit if I have the opportunity.

DAT DOG

If you're in the mood for a delicious and unique dining experience, I definitely suggest checking out Dat Dog. This spot is located on Frenchmen Street and it has so much to offer. One of their standout dishes is a hot dog made from a cheeseburger - it's quite the tasty treat! Additionally, their chili cheese fries are some of the best I've ever had. Trust me, after a few drinks, you'll be glad you stopped by. Don't miss out on this gem!

LIL DIZZY’S CAFE

Of course, if you're planning a trip to New Orleans, a stop at Lil Dizzy’s Cafe in Treme is an absolute must. Their gumbo, baked macaroni and cheese, and blackened fish are all absolutely delicious. I'd recommend getting there early to avoid the crowds - this place is popular for a reason!

SIDNEY’S SNOWBALLS

You absolutely must make a stop at Sidney's Snowballs located outside of Treme. It's a legendary establishment and I cannot stress enough how essential it is to try one of their snowballs. Be sure to order the wedding cake flavor with condensed milk - it's an absolute must-try!

In today's world, it's important to prioritize our mental health and well-being. According to the CDC, black women are more likely to experience symptoms of Major depressive disorder (MDD) compared to white women. That's why I make sure to check in with myself regularly to stay on top of my mental health. Traveling has always provided me with a new perspective on my life.

THANK YOU, NEW ORLEANS!

I feel so refreshed and rejuvenated after my time there. From the delicious food to the beautiful architecture, everything was absolutely perfect. Now, I'm ready to dive back into motherhood, my career, and tackle whatever challenges come my way. Until next time, New Orleans!I
